A Complete Sectional Matrix Set for Class II Composite Restorations

Sectional matrix systems are designed to address the challenge of creating a tight, well-contoured proximal contact in Class II composite restorations — a task that circumferential matrix systems handle less effectively. The TOR VM kit provides three size categories (small, medium, large) each in standard and ledge variants, plus a standard ring, giving the clinician all the components needed for most posterior Class II cases without sourcing matrices separately. The ledge variants are intended for preparations with a deeper gingival margin, where a ledged matrix provides better sealing at the gingival floor.

The availability of four thickness and hardness combinations — 0.050mm hard, 0.035mm hard, 0.050mm soft, and 0.035mm soft — means the clinician can choose the matrix that adapts to the tooth contour in the specific case. Thinner matrices (0.035mm) occupy less interproximal space and may compress the adjacent tooth less during placement. Hard matrices maintain their shape under the ring's wedging force, while soft matrices conform more readily to irregular tooth anatomy.

Key Features

01

Seven Matrix Variants in One Kit

Includes small, medium, and large sizes in both standard and ledge configurations, plus a standard ring — 30 pieces covering most Class II posterior scenarios.

02

Ledge Matrix Design

Ledge variants (small, medium, large with ledge) are designed for deeper gingival preparations where a ledge helps seal the gingival matrix margin.

03

Four Thickness and Hardness Options

Choose from 0.050mm hard (default), 0.035mm hard, 0.050mm soft, or 0.035mm soft to match the interproximal anatomy and composite placement technique.

04

Catalog-Referenced Product Codes

Each matrix type carries a TOR VM catalog number (cat#1.0971–1.0976, cat#1.099), supporting accurate reordering by code.

05

Proximal Contour Formation

Sectional matrix design supports the formation of a well-adapted proximal wall and contact point in Class II composite restorations.

Produced by TOR VM in Russia, a manufacturer with an established catalog of restorative dental accessories.

Professional Use Cases

Clinical Applications

Class II Composite Restorations

Primary application is establishing the proximal wall and contact point in MO, DO, and MOD composite restorations in premolars and molars.

Deep Gingival Margin Cases

Ledge matrix variants are indicated when the gingival margin extends below the contact point, requiring a ledge for adequate gingival sealing.

Varying Tooth Dimensions

Small, medium, and large size options allow selection appropriate to the specific tooth being restored — small for premolars, large for wide molars.

Why Choose

Why Choose This Product

  • Complete 30-piece kit reduces the need to purchase matrix types separately
  • Three size categories (small, medium, large) with and without ledge cover most posterior teeth
  • Four thickness/hardness options allow anatomy-matched selection
  • TOR VM catalog codes support accurate and straightforward reordering
  • Sectional design for tight proximal contact formation in Class II composites
  • Russian manufacture by a recognized dental accessories brand

Chairside Reference

Chairside Decision Guide

Clinical SituationRecommended Action
Choosing matrix sizeSmall matrices are generally used for premolars; medium for average-dimension molars; large for wide molars. Trial fit before composite placement to confirm the matrix covers the preparation margin.
Choosing thickness and hardnessUse 0.050mm hard (default) for most restorations. Use 0.035mm when interproximal space is very tight. Use soft variants when the matrix needs to conform to irregular or concave proximal surfaces.
Standard vs ledge matrixSelect a ledge variant when the gingival margin of the preparation is deep and a ledge is needed to help keep composite from extruding subgingivally.

Clinical Workflow

Application Guidelines & Reference

Application Application Guidelines
  1. 1

    Matrix Size Selection

Select the matrix size before composite placement. The matrix height should cover the preparation margin at the gingival floor and extend slightly above the marginal ridge of the adjacent tooth.

  2. 2

    Ring Placement

Place the standard ring (cat#1.099) over the matrix and wedge to stabilize the matrix against the tooth. Confirm the ring tines are seated in the interproximal embrasure before beginning composite placement.

  3. 3

    Wedging

Place an interdental wedge below the gingival margin of the matrix to seal the gingival floor and reduce composite flash. The wedge also separates the teeth slightly to compensate for matrix thickness.

  4. 4

    Composite Placement and Matrix Removal

Place composite incrementally. After polymerization of the final increment, remove the ring first, then slide the matrix buccally or lingually rather than pulling it occlusally to avoid fracturing the new proximal contact.

Pairs With Best Used With
  • Posterior composite resin (packable or sculptable)
  • Interdental wooden or anatomic wedges
  • Dental rubber dam for moisture isolation
  • Contact checking strips after restoration completion
Professional Dental Use Professional Use Notice

Matrices are single-use items. Do not reuse a matrix that has been compressed by the ring or deformed during a previous restoration — a deformed matrix will not contour accurately and may result in an open proximal contact or flash. Always remove the ring before the matrix to avoid fracturing the composite marginal ridge.
