Dental impression aluminum trays come in a variety of sizes and shapes to accommodate different patients and procedures. They may be solid or perforated, with the perforations allowing excess impression material to escape. The trays are also typically fitted with a rim to help prevent the impression material from spilling out.

To create an impression, the dentist will apply a thin layer of impression material to the tray and then place it in the patient's mouth. The patient will then bite down on the tray to create a mold of their teeth and gums. Once the impression material has set, the dentist will remove the tray and send it to a dental laboratory to be cast into a permanent restoration.
